California White Wine |
|
California white wines are delicious to unwind and relax with, as well as being a very good accompaniment to many kinds of recipes. Chardonnay is widely produced in California and has gained popularity throughout the world. This delicious wine is ideally paired with fish, creamy pasta dishes, poultry and many entrees. Chardonnay ranges from fruity and light to bold and dry. Sauvignon Blanc is another highly sought after California wine. The color varies from wine to wine but is usually pale yellow.
Sauvignon Blanc can be sweet or dry, depending on the wine producer, and is normally light-bodied. It suits pasta, poultry, and seafood. White Zinfandel is crisp and clean in flavor. Most kinds of White Zinfandel have a pink tint. This wine is soft and subtle in flavor. Almost all California white wines can be served with veal, fish, poultry, blue cheeses, and creamy savory foods. If your food is spicy, you might need something sweeter, such as a Riesling or Gewürztraminer, to stand up to the stronger flavors.

Which Wine to Serve with This Recipe
Smooth, medium bodied or full bodied wine is ideal with rich beef casserole recipes and red wine recipes such as this one. A Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon or Chianti would be ideal. These red wines are best served at 60ºF in order to bring out their flavors.
If you have made a vegetable casserole instead (just substitute root vegetables such as turnips, swede and some extra carrots for the meat and cook until they are tender), you can serve a red or white, depending on the wine or bouillon used in the casserole recipe.

Wine and Beef Casserole Recipes
Many beef casserole recipes feature wine as one of the key ingredients. Others might call for Guinness or beer to enhance the rich flavor of the meat. If you are making a beef casserole recipe and it calls for red wine, you can choose from many different wines, including Zinfandel, Syrah, and Merlot. Remember, when making cooking recipes, you should never use a wine which you would not drink because the flavor of the wine affects the flavor of the beef casserole.
Wine and Vegetable Casserole Recipes
Vegetable casseroles are versatile and you can use either a red or a white California wine to add flavor, depending on the other ingredients. If you are using a fish, vegetable or chicken bouillon as a base, a dry white wine such as Chenin Blanc or a buttery Chardonnay will be nice to add to the vegetable casserole recipe and to drink with it. If you are using a beef bouillon or something equally rich, a red wine will go nicely to complement the overall casserole flavor.
