Best Southern California Wines

Different people enjoy different wines but these are generally considered to be some of the best Southern California wines and also the best-selling:

  • 1998 Brophy Clark Sauvignon Blanc from San Luis Obispo/Santa Barbara. This delicious white wine comes from two vineyards, resulting in a zesty, rich flavor.

  • 1999 Babcock Winery Pinot Grigio from Santa Barbara. This wine, made from Zinfandel grapes, combines a zesty taste with sharp apple, citrus, herb and melon flavors.

  • 1996 Seven Peaks Shiraz from Paso Robles. This wine is smoothly rich, red, and full-bodied. This Shiraz is made from Zinfandel grapes.

California's south coast comprises the area between LA's coastal regions right down to Mexico. Important wine regions in the southern California area include the Ramona Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area), Pasqual Valley AVA, Antelope Valley/Leona Valley AVA, and Temecula Valley AVA. Some of the best Californian wines come from this region because of the highly favorable climate and grape growing conditions.

The 2005 Special Selection Chardonnay from the Callaway Winery in southern California combines the soft scents of spice and vanilla with sharp nectarine and green apple flavors. It has a crisp, clean buttery finish. Something different from this same southern California winery is the 2006 Special Selection Muscat Canelli. It is sweet, white and has flavors of raisins, figs, and pears. This wine is excellent with spicy food.
