These amazing homemade scones are magnificent with a glass of California Chardonnay if you fancy an indulgent afternoon or evening snack. Combining flavorful ingredients like spinach, herbs and two types of cheese with a classic scone mix results in a fantastic and mouthwatering treat. Serve these scones with real butter for the best results and why not serve them hot from the oven so the butter melts through them?
This recipe is very easy to make and the fact that you can use dried herbs, frozen spinach, and simple ingredients means that you probably have most of the ingredients already in the cupboards or refrigerator. Make sure the thawed spinach is squeezed out well because it holds a lot of water. If your dough is too watery it will not knead properly and the scones will turn out mushy instead of fluffy. If the dough seems quite runny anyway, just add some more flour to it to firm it up, else it will not be kneadable.
Scones are a versatile food and this spinach and cheese scone recipe is great whether you are making breakfast, lunch, appetizers, or snacks. Kids love scones just as much as adults do and adding two kinds of cheese, herbs, and spinach ensures your homemade scones recipe is bursting with flavor.

Serve hot or warm with butter.

Wine Suggestion:
These scones are buttery and light and they would be fantastic with Chardonnay. Choose a buttery Chardonnay to enhance the creaminess of the scones. It is always a good idea to complement the flavors in your recipes with the flavors in the wine. Sweet, salty flavors are also good with Chardonnay, so why not split the scones and spread them with butter and wafer thin ham slices for a fantastic snack?

Chardonnay is one of the most popular types of white wine and the Chardonnay grape is used to make a lot of famous wines. Nearly all white Burgundy is made with Chardonnay grapes and this includes everything from Chablis to Bourgogne Blanc. This grape is used in Spain to make Cava and in France to make Champagne. One reason why this grape is used so much is that it is simple to grow, so grape producers enjoy crafting it.
You can use this grape to make lots of different kinds of wine. Chardonnay has a velvety texture, which means it is versatile when you convert the grape into wine. This is because it takes on the climate and soil characteristics where you grow it, so it has a propensity for glycerine, and acid. You can craft Chardonnay grapes into fresh, citrus-tasting white wine or age it in barrels for stronger results. You can get inexpensive bottles of California Chardonnay and top quality Champagne and Chablis. There are lots of Chardonnay styles, even though in the 1970s nearly all of it was highly oaked.
If you want to try a good Chardonnay, you might like to sample something pure and un-oaked, to get the true flavor of the grape. Look out for Chablis and try this delicate wine with fish. If you want something with a subtle fruit taste, get something from the Montrachet or Meursault regions of France. These would be good with cheese scones recipes as well.
California Chardonnays are great with seasoned, grilled food and you can get oaked fruity ones from the Napa Valley region. Try a Chardonnay from the Santa Barbara area if you want something riper and fruitier. Australian Chardonnay is also very nice. Look for a tropical-tasting Chardonnay from Australia's Hunter Valley and enjoy its intense flavor. This wine is nice served by itself, without food.
